Portfolio One: Albums
The images in these albums, with the exception of āCuba, I Never Left Youā, were not initially created or grouped thematically as their titles might suggest. It was with time and distance that I began to see connections emerge that revealed deeper, unintended meanings.

Where did you go, my darling?
12āx18ā
These pieces were created in the months following the passing of my dear friend and collaborator, Margo. One of the multimedia events we produced together featured the American astronomer Edwin Hubble. One day, I came across a publication called The Marginalian. Inside was an essay by Maria Popova titled What Happens When We Die, accompanied by an illustrationāan infrared photograph taken with the Hubble Space Telescope. It bore a striking resemblance to the images I had been creating. The essay opens with a moving story:
āWhen my atheist engineer grandfather died, my atheist engineer grandmother leaned over the body in the hospice bed that had contained half a century of shared life and love, cradled the cranium in which his stubborn and sensitive mind had dwelt, and whispered into the halogen-lit ether: āWhere did you go, my darling?āā

The Painbody
12āx18ā
The pain body is Eckart Tolleās term for the emotional pain we carry from the past that embeds itself in our bodies. These images hint at the ways grief takes up residence.
Cuba, I never met you
Iām a third-generation Cuban, but unlike my sister, I never had the chance to visit. These images were made by deconstructing photo books of Cuba - not with a political message, but as a personal response. Each carries emotional resonance, but no intentional narrative.
