Orishas

Orishas are divine forces and spiritual intermediaries from Yoruba and Haitian traditions. They walk between the human and spirit world, guiding and protecting those who honor them. In this work they arrive as embodied figures, not symbols, but ancestral presences.
Kid Kollage

Several buyers asked me to create a collage for their kid’s rooms and I had so much fun making them that I was inspired to create a series. Something about feeling the childlike energy within me really got me going. My ultimate goal would be for parents to show their children the images and have them go through the process of responding — have a conversation about what they see and allow their imaginations to run wild and perhaps invent stories about the characters.
